The Dark Forest is aptly named, for the Darkwood Trees that cover these parts of the Twilight Forest have a incredibly thick canopy. What light that comes from the permanent dusk in this dimension is utterly unable to penetrate the thick leaves, leaving the ground as dark as the deepest caves threading through the world. The normally ubiquitous Canopy Trees are unable to grow here, leaving a vast expanse of tree tops as empty as the most barren desert. Attempting to clear even a tiny section of this unnaturally dense foliage would surely be a fool's errand - even fire has difficulty taking hold here.
The Dark Forest is a spooky place. Darkwood Trees leave most sections of this biome as dark as underground. Above the trees, there is a vast expanse of the tree tops, impossible to see through to the bottom. The Dark Forest is home to four Goblin Knight Strongholds, each dotted at the north, south, east, and west of the biome.

Dangerous creatures are more than happy to make their home here, such as Skeleton Druids riding on monstrous King Spiders and Mist Wolves, with some other monsters from the Caves sneaking up from the depths. Perhaps the forest was not always this way, as evidenced by the Goblin Knight Strongholds that can be found here.
The mobs found here are Skeleton Druids on King Spiders and Mist Wolves, with some other monsters from the Caves sneaking up from the darkness. Dark Forests are the only place to find Goblin Knight Strongholds, Mist Wolves and King Spiders.

One would be forgiven for thinking that such a foreboding environment would be difficult enough to explore, but there is a further defence in store. Adventurers approaching the edge of the forest have noted wispy strands of darkness that thicken as they get closer and closer. Those who did not heed this warning were consumed in blackness, struck utterly blind until they were able to stumble back from the dark trees, though more often than not, some blundered on and were never seen again. Even those who think themselves safe from such a vile enchantment by climbing up and traversing across the top of the canopy are not immune to this.
Using the Progression system, the area beneath the trees in the Dark Forest will be filled with smoky ribbons of dark magic. You will be affected with blindness if you stay in the area. Defeating the Twilight Lich will allow you to enter unimpeded. You will also need any Trophy that isn't a Knight Phantom Trophy or Ur-Ghast Trophy (on the first visit) to gain access to the Goblin Knight Stronghold.

The only way to dispel this black magic is by defeating a Twilight Lich in his tower lair, found elsewhere in the Twilight Forest.
Defeating the Knight Phantoms will allow you to interact with and enter the Dark Tower at the Dark Forest Center, as well as lift the blindness-inducing enchantment around the center.
