Resembling a large [[Hollow Hill]], the '''Hydra Lair''' looms out of the flat swamplands providing a natural lair for the multi-headed [[Hydra]] at the heart of the [[Fire Swamp]]. The Hydra seems to have hollowed out the hill itself, providing it with shelter and forcing anyone who would challenge it to approach it head on. The area that faces the Hydra is also bereft of vegetation or cover, so that there is nowhere to hide.
The '''Hydra Lair''' is a structure similar in size and shape of a [[Hollow Hill|Large Hollow Hill]] that has approximately a third of its surface demolished. The main feature of the Hydra Lair is the [[Hydra]], which accommodates most of the area. Hydra Lairs also contain materials such as Redstone, Lapis, Iron, Gold and even occasionally Diamond. However, to access any of these resources without being constantly assaulted, the Hydra must be defeated first.


The similarities with a Hollow Hill do not end there, as quick glances past the Hydra reveal the same stalactites of valuable ores that have been exploited elsewhere in the Twilight Forest. {{mcw|Redstone Ore|Redstone}}, {{mcw|Lapis Lazuli|Lapis}}, {{mcw|Iron Ore|Iron}}, {{mcw|Gold Ore|Gold}} and occasionally, even {{mcw|Diamond Ore}} has been found, but anyone seeking to mine these will need to defeat the Hydra first lest they risk their lives to avoid get eaten or burned to death by the creature.
Hydra Lairs are found in the [[Fire Swamp]]. Hydra Lairs can be located easily using a Magic Map and appear as a sprite of one of the Hydra's heads.

Entering the Fire Swamp for the first time is folly, as the air will be thick with cinders and burning ash, setting fire to the impatient adventurer. Known fire resistance enchantments or alchemical potions are no defence against this magical curse, however there is one way to overcome it - consuming some [[Meef Stroganoff]] taken from the corpse of a [[Minoshroom]] will grant protection and allow safe exploration.
 
Defeating the Hydra and collecting some of its [[Fiery Blood]] will weaken the curse of acid rain over the [[Twilight Highlands]], ending the Swamp part of the Twilight Forest journey. If they have not done so already, adventurers will also need to seek out the [[Ur-Ghast]] and [[Snow Queen]] in order to dispel the magical acid rain completely.
