Landmarks

Landmarks in the Twilight Forest fall into two categories - Major and Minor.

Major Landmarks

Large enough to be detected and marked on a Magic Map, these massive structures are inhabited by dangerous creatures and traps, but also fabulous treasure. See each page below for more details on these locations.

Minor Landmarks

Minor Landmarks have been found scattered throughout the Twilight Forest in most Biomes. Speculation runs rife as to the purpose and origins of some of these structures, but for some, their mere existence is but another part of the mystery and beauty of the Twilight.

Stone Circle

A rough stone circle of Mossy and regular Cobblestone. Perhaps they were used for worship ceremonies, or as a magical foci in the forest, but now nature has reclaimed these simple stone constructions.

Well

Sturdily constructed in various sizes with fences, planks and cobbled stone, these water bearing holes have stood for unknown centuries. Natural geological activity seems to have shifted beneath some of the wells, giving access to caves beneath. Some adventurers swear that various treasures can be found at the bottom of the shaft, just waiting to be collected if one has the means.

Ruined Foundation

Forlorn and empty, little seems to remain of these former homes other than the walls and wooden floor, though the natural vegetation in the Twilight Forest is only too happy to move back in again. Much like the wells, some adventurers say that supplies and treasure can be found beneath in the ancient cellars.

Druid Hut

Decaying Druid Huts of varying appearance still moulder away in the Twilight Forest, slowly being reclaimed by nature. Their former inhabitants, the Skeleton Druids, still haunt these dwellings and will fight fiercely to defend them. Adventurers wishing to claim the area are strongly advised to destroy the magical spawners that remain inside, lest more undead Druids rise up to destroy the intruder.

Happily, once the Druids have been removed, these sizable huts can serve as excellent bases for further exploration in the dimension. As a bonus, some huts have a basement level that may contain extra provisions and loot.

Monolith

Strange-looking pillars can be found throughout the Twilight Forest, erected by long forgotten people. Constructed with inviolate obsidian and topped with a solid block of lapis lazuli, some have speculated that monoliths have a connection with the fundamental fabric of the dimension itself, as Ravens, with their magical feathers, tend to congregate around them. Whatever the reason and origins of these dark spires, the monoliths are a welcome sight for new explorers to the Twilight Forest.

Stalagmite

More mundane than the obsidian monoliths, these rock spires have managed to break through to the surface from Caves and Hollow Hills over countless eons. Some explorers have reported valuable ores in the core of these landmarks, but are otherwise unremarkable.

Leaf Dungeon

In the branches of the Giant Oak Trees, an adventurer may hear high-pitched spider noises. Some careful investigation has revealed hidden spaces within the branches and foliage, now known in the adventuring community as Leaf Dungeons. Given the sheer size and bulk of a Giant Oak Tree, it is perhaps unsurprising that Swarm Spiders have made their homes in these dungeons. Adventurers are warned not to be overzealous when breaking into these chambers, lest they be overwhelmed and startled by angry arachnids. Light sources, as well as removing the nest that spawns the spiders is recommended.

Once cleared of the spiders, explorers are now free to claim the chest that these dungeons contain. Most have been found to contain various foodstuffs and saplings of different tree species native to the Twilight Forest, but the most coveted and rare finds are the Magic Saplings. Exploration of multiple Giant Oaks may be needed to find all the known types of these wondrous trees.

Quest Grove Ruins

These are merely the decaying remains of a Quest Grove. Perhaps they were more common in the Twilight Forest, but most wise and experienced travellers know that in the present day, the only intact groves lie within Enchanted Forest biomes. Do not be fooled!

Robust Oak Stump

Even the mighty Giant Oak Trees eventually fall, leaving behind these colossal stumps. While unremarkable otherwise, they are a good supply of lumber as well as the remains of the tree's Roots. Some have also been used by weary explorers to take cover in for rest and recuperation before returning to their travels.

Robust Hollow Log

Where the stumps of the Giant Oak Trees remain, so do pieces of the trunk in the form of these hollow logs. Many can be found scattered about the forest floor, handy as temporary shelters and another supply of wood for construction. Moss Patches seem to thrive on these logs.

Graveyard

Adventurers exploring the Spooky Forest may encounter these abandoned locations waiting to be rediscovered. These graveyards seem to be extremely ancient, with the headstones badly decayed and overgrown with moss, along with cobwebs that infest the entire area.

Caution is advised as within the boundary fence can be found magical spawners capped with slabs, that could awaken the mouldering inhabitants at any moment. Furthermore, while some explorers have reported treasure chests hidden amongst the graves, there may also be a trap waiting for the impatient.
