Standing over the desolate Glaciers, the Aurora Palace is a striking and beautiful sight for adventurers in the Twilight Forest, with its walls constantly shifting in a variety of colours reaching into the sky. Beauty is only skin deep sadly, as there are dangers within who will not hesitate to defend their magical home.
Features
As alluded to already, the most obvious and distinctive feature of the palace is what forms it. Aurora Blocks make up the walls of the tower, giving the structure an ethereal appearance as the colours move and pulse in random patterns over the surface. Inside, supporting columns built from Aurora Pillars can be seen, standing distinct from the walls with their bright, ice-like appearance, though it does not change colour. The floors and stairs are built from birch slabs.
The overall structure of the palace consists of multiple tall towers, interconnected by small doorways at varying levels within the chambers. While some rooms can be reached by simply walking up, others are built so that jumping, mining and block placement are required to reach further up. Despite the softly pulsing walls, it can be difficult to get one's bearings while exploring the palace - adventurers are strongly recommended to bring light sources to illuminate the interior, as well as some way to mark their progress as the utter lack of distinguishing features can make it very easy to get lost.
Alternatively, Aurora Blocks are not tough to break, so one could simply smash their way through the outside and climb their way up using their stores of other blocks - but that runs the risk of a fatal fall onto the unforgiving glacier below, as well as missing out on some of the treasures to be found in the palace.
Snow Queen Sanctum
Found only near the top of the palace, this area can be easily discerned by the thick blocks of Ice and Packed Ice that form a sort of lair. It is here that the Snow Queen can be found and confronted. Adventurers will need to tunnel up to reach her, but this can prove difficult as breaking the ice may release streams of freezing water, washing the incautious back down into the lower chambers.
Monsters
Icy enemies patrol the dim halls and walkways. Most common are Ice Cores, animated by frost magic and coming in two varieties - Stable Ice Cores have a distinctive halo of icy spikes and launch magical snowballs at intruders - while one is merely an annoyance, they can prove to be a deadly threat in numbers, especially as the snowballs pack enough punch to knock an unwary explorer off the narrow platforms in the palace. Unstable Ice Cores do not hold back from the fray, but instead charge in close, inflicting damage with their sharp spikes. They present an additional danger by violently exploding upon death, destroying some blocks but transforming others with the sudden release of the magical energy that bound them. Also found are Snow Guardians, magical animus clad in armour formed of materials found elsewhere in the Twilight Forest.
Treasure
Chests are usually to be found hidden amongst the pillars in the palace. Some of these chests contain food and arrows, useful for the travels ahead, but others contain valuable loot such as Ironwood Ingots, Steeleaf and Charms of Keeping. Explorers have reported that the most valuable treasures are often found in the dead-end chambers, with unique enchanted weapons such as the fragile but deadly Glass Sword.
Progression
Explorers that have not defeated an Alpha Yeti will find the Glacier cloaked in a ferocious blizzard, hindering movement considerably. Even those who battle through this to reach the palace will be defeated, as a magical force field prevents any attempt to damage the walls or the guardians within. Touching some of the enchanted fur of a slain Alpha Yeti lifts these enchantments.
Defeating the Snow Queen ends the Snow Forest part of the Twilight Forest journey. In order to explore the Twilight Highlands, adventurers will also need to find and kill the Hydra and Ur-Ghast as well.
