The '''Dark Forest''' is a spooky place. [[Twilight Forest Trees#Darkwood Trees|Darkwood Trees]] leave most sections of this biome as dark as underground. Above the trees, ponds and, much less commonly, lava pools (which don't burn the leaves), can be generated. The Dark Forest is home to  the frightening [[Dark Tower]] and [[Goblin Knight Stronghold]]. The mobs found here are [[Skeletal Druid]]s, [[Kobold]]s, Zombies, Skeletons, [[Mistwolf|Mistwolves]], and [[King Spider]]s. Dark Forests are the only place to find [[Dark Tower|Dark Towers]], [[Goblin Knight Stronghold]]s, Mistwolves and King Spiders.
Despite the darkness, monsters such as Zombies and Skeletons will not spawn on the surface. However, other monsters such as [[Mist Wolf|Mist Wolves]] and [[King Spider]]s will spawn, making traversal in the Dark Forest more dangerous.
 
The Dark Forest will only generate around a [[Dark Forest Center]].

Using the [[Progression]] system, the area beneath the trees in the Dark Forest will be filled with smoky ribbons of dark magic. You will be affected with blindness if you stay in the area.  Defeating the [[Hydra]] will allow you to enter unimpeded. You will also need a [[Quest Ram Trophy]]
The Dark Forest is locked by [[Progression]], creating a barrier of black tendrils that inflict the player with Darkness, making progression through the biome much more difficult.
, [[Naga Trophy]], [[Lich Trophy]], [[Minoshroom Trophy]] or a [[Hydra Trophy]] to unlock the lower levels of the [[Goblin Knight Stronghold]].
 
In order to unlock the Dark Forest, the [[Twilight Lich]] must be defeated. This will clear the Darkness-inflicting effect as well as removing some structure protection from the [[Goblin Knight Stronghold]].
 
As well as being locked by Progression, the Dark Forest is also key to progressing to the Dark Forest Center and [[Dark Tower]] by defeating the [[Knight Phantom]]s in the Goblin Knight Stronghold.

The Dark Forest is a densely vegetated biome with a thick canopy that blocks almost all light from the forest floor. Darkwood Trees grow most commonly in this biome, with some smaller vegetation such as tall grass and flowers covering the grass. Occasionally, Mushglooms grow in the area, providing a faint source of light.

Despite the darkness, monsters such as Zombies and Skeletons will not spawn on the surface. However, other monsters such as Mist Wolves and King Spiders will spawn, making traversal in the Dark Forest more dangerous.

The Dark Forest will only generate around a Dark Forest Center.

Progression[edit]

The Dark Forest is locked by Progression, creating a barrier of black tendrils that inflict the player with Darkness, making progression through the biome much more difficult.

In order to unlock the Dark Forest, the Twilight Lich must be defeated. This will clear the Darkness-inflicting effect as well as removing some structure protection from the Goblin Knight Stronghold.

As well as being locked by Progression, the Dark Forest is also key to progressing to the Dark Forest Center and Dark Tower by defeating the Knight Phantoms in the Goblin Knight Stronghold.
