The Deep Mushroom Forest is a rare sight in the forest, with giant mushrooms and canopy mushrooms almost completely dominating these areas. Mycelium can be found in patches here, helping to sustain such growths, as well as precluding the growth of other dominant forest species such as Giant Oak Trees.
In older versions, an incomplete Mushroom Castle would generate.

Some adventurers have noted a most curious landmark that towers over the giant fungi. Towering mushrooms, similar in height and appearance as the giant oaks have been found and even more curiously, with walkways and rooms erected between them to form a large fortress like structure. Any reasons as to who is responsible for this, and why, is at best, pure speculation as exploration within the castles have found absolutely no signs of habitation. Many explorers have been grateful nonetheless as the empty rooms and halls allow for a base to be set up for further expeditions elsewhere into the greater Twilight. Other than the castles, no other landmarks have been found amongst these biomes.
Dense Mushroom Forest is not affected by Progression and may be visited at any time.

Although the presence of the Mushroom Castles suggest that some denizen may have resided here (and may yet return?) there is no magical protection of any sort over the fungi, allowing free exploration as one wishes without slaying the monsters that reside elsewhere.
