The Twilight Forest is made of exactly 19 biomes. If you construct a Magic Map, you will be able to see the biomes in the surrounding areas in different colors. Each biome has it's own unique trait, but can be grouped together into different categories.
Core Biomes
These biomes make up most of the area on the map, and have a wide variety of objectives, treasures and animals. They are all relatively safe to travel in. No monsters spawn in these biomes under normal circumstances, although you may occasionally find one that has wandered out of a cave or ruin.
If you are playing with the Progression rules enabled, these biomes are all unprotected and free to explore at any time.
- Twilight Forest
- Dense Twilight Forest
- Mushroom Forest
- Oak Savannah
- Twilight Clearing
- Firefly Forest
- Twilight Stream
Swamp Biomes
The Swamp Biomes are found together in one section of the map. The Swamp usually surrounds the Fire Swamp. Typically, no Hollow Hills or Hedge Mazes will spawn, but Giant Oak Trees will still spawn
If you are playing through the Progression system, the Swamp will be protected by a haze of venomous Mosquitoes that will inflict Hunger, and the Lich must be defeated in order to access it. The Fire Swamp will also be protected by glowing hot ashes that will burn you if you haven't slain the Minoshroom in the Swamp.
Dark Forest Biomes
The Dark Forest Biomes, like the Swamp Biomes, are found together in one part of the map. It is a very dangerous area, with poor visibility, and many monsters. Typically, no other structures will spawn around here except for the Progression structures.
If you are playing through the Progression system, you have to defeat the Hydra before you can enter the Dark Forest without being cursed with Blindness.
Cold Biomes
The cold biomes feature snow, ice, and fir trees. They are dangerous areas, occupied by freezing monsters. Tupically, no other structures spawn here except for Progression structures.
In the Progression system, you must defeat the Ur-ghast before tackling these areas, as they will be protected by a ferocious blizzard that slows you down.
Highland Biomes
Placed atop huge cliffs, this section of biomes represents some of the toughest challenges the Twilight Forest has to offer. One of the biomes appears similar to the Mega Taiga Biome, while the others appear as rocky faces.
Using the Progression system, a toxic rain protects these areas until the Snow Queen is defeated.
Rare Biomes
These biomes may not occur on every map. They have unique scenery and sometimes unique creatures or treasures. Much like the Core Biomes, these biomes are not protected by any Progression, but serve different purposes.
